Charles is a multidisciplinary international development practitioner who has in the past served as a Business Development Manager at Diligent Consulting Limited, an international development consulting firm that specializes in agricultural economics and agribusiness, project management, and small and medium-sized enterprise development.

Charles has extensive knowledge and substantial experience in the management of consulting as well as the overall business development operations of an international development arena. He has coordinated and delivered a number of consulting assignments, including, among many others, an International Food Policy Research Institute study on post-harvest losses suffered by smallholder farmers and businesses in the maize value chain in Tanzania, funded by the FAO; an end-line evaluation and impact assessment of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Support for Sector-Wide Improvement in Tanzania’s Agriculture Sector Management Capacity and Capability Grant, implemented by Dalberg Implement; a Rikolto’s contextual analysis of the urban food environments in Mbeya and Arusha, Tanzania; a Rikolto’s and International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives’ assignment on building an understanding of the FAO AgrInvest concept and its application in the city region food system environment for Arusha, Tanzania; a final evaluation of the EU-funded Enhancing the Competitiveness of Smallholder Rice Farmers project in Tanzania for the Aga Khan Foundation; an end-line evaluation of the Enabel-funded Iringa – Mitigation, Adaptation, Productivity for Climate Smart Agriculture project for Kilimo Trust; a sex and gender-based analysis of maternal, new-born, child, and adolescent health and nutrition, as well as vitamin A supplementation and universal salt iodization programs in Tanzania for Nutrition International; and an exploration study for the Loughborough University/ Modern Energy Cooking Services program on how people of different generations living in the urban areas of Tanzania learn to cook, funded by UKAid/ Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.

Charles has a strong expertise in research, data handling and management, and monitoring and evaluation/ monitoring and results measurements, collectively including outstanding expertise on designing activity results data collection forms and outcome evaluation instruments; data collection by using Android devices, Sansa Recorder, and Marantz; designing data entry systems by using SPSS, MS Access, and MS Excel; and a monitoring and evaluation database design by using MS Access, MS Excel, the Online Magpi and Mobenz Survey System (for mobile phone data collection systems), a SharePoint Database, and the migration of MS Excel and MS Access into a web-based Azure SharePoint database. He also has extensive knowledge of ODK, CSPro, Kobo Toolbox, Survey 123, Survey CTO, and COMCARE platforms, which he uses to create simple and complex forms, connect data collection devices to servers, and set up Android apps and platforms. Other platforms include Otter.ai and Happy Scribe for qualitative data collection and transcription.
